I know the more you look online for different ways to boost engagement on your social media sites, the more overwhelming it tends to get. Everyone has their own beliefs on the "right" or "only way" it will work... but lets be honest. Like people, no two strategies are the same... and not one strategy will be cookie cutter across the board. Each social media profile will be unique in the way that it is able to connect and attract engagement from their targeted community. But with all the clients Ive ever helped with their online presence, the common "starters" to boosting engagement are actually very simple and do not take up much time at all!
Focusing on creating amazing content goes past the image appearance its self. Its more about sharing things that are engaging with people. Share with them some interesting facts, personal or professional stories, relatable tips, and other things that would be content specific. Authenticity is captivating to all, and your targeted audience can typically see right through a creator being anything other than. And I know what your thinking.." I'm already running a business.. when am I going to find time within my day to post on social media?" I hear you. It can be a stressful thought keeping up with not only your daily tasks, but also managing a social media presence. Lucky enough, many social media sites have the option to schedule posts for as far out as needed. I usually suggest start small... post a few times a week (consistently) and producing your posts in bulk and scheduling them out over the next week to a month!
This is a huge deal! Many people start a social media account, post some content and hope that it will bring in the traction that they dream of. Well, I hate to say this... but it wont. Starting the conversation for not only the people you are following/followers, but other users as well. Use conversation that is simple and easy to understand. Reaching out and starting that conversation can open so many additional doors. People are looking for some sort of connection when they are on social media. They are constantly shown images and content, that it may start seeming like a blur to them. Reaching out and engaging a conversation will allow them to see you as the person, not just the profile.
Although it may be debatable depending on who you talk to... my stance is that I would prefer a caption have good, descriptive detail... At the end of the day, having someone scroll right by it is better than having someone really want to dive into your caption and learn more but cant.. because there isn't much there. You are writing captions to captivate your next potential client... trust me. They will read it.
Another option in case you would prefer to keep things short and sweet on social media is to make sure that your captions are clear, concise and straight to the point, but leads them to a blog post or a website that will provide them with the additional information, and also invites them to your little slice of the internet outside of social media.
Shareable content is content that doesn't need much explaining.. a good example of this is a heartfelt quote. Another aspect of this would be a post sharing "forgettable" information. It seems like a conundrum, but having someone look at your post and thinking " wow, that's a great idea." or "I never thought of it that way, I want to save this so I can remember." is the outcome that you are looking for. This is going to let Facebook and Instagram know that this is a post people are liking. They are sharing, and saving this one post... Lets send it out to more people who have similar interests." Very common examples of this are recipes, or life hacks. But always ensure that the post is clear and easy to understand!
