COMMON MYTHS ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA

Social Media is a wild topic when your running a business because of the overnight success you could see if done right. But with all the information that goes around about how to use social media effectively, how do you know that the information you are learning is accurate or just a common myth?

Although there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to social media strategy, there are many standard misconceptions that are out there that need to be addressed.

Common Myth 1:

YOU NEED TO BE ON EVERY PLATFORM.

Honestly... who has the time for that? Your ideal client will not be on every single platform, and neither do you.. Thats just a completely unrealistic expectation and can overwhelm you just from the thought of having to manage all of that!

THE TRUTH?

Focusing on 2-3 platforms max and focus on growing genuine communities on each.

The trick with this is understanding where your target audience is hanging out online. Some insider tips...

If your target audience is ages 18-29, the most popular platforms to utilize would be Tiktok (users are about 22.4% in this age range) and Instagram (users are about 71% in this age range)

If your target audience is 30-65 Facebook is the highest ranked platform (68.2%) and Instagram (22%).

Common Myth 2:

YOUR BUSINESS CAN ONLY TAKE OFF ONCE YOU REACH 10,000 FOLLOWERS.

Can you imagine?

THE TRUTH?

No number of followers will determine success. From personal experience I can specifically draw this from as well. My first paying client booked my services out completely the first day I launched my business. I barely had 100 followers. Dont get sucked into vanity metrics.

What is important to remember is that the number really doesn't matter. It is more important to have a following that is engaged with your content rather than a large following that isn't engaging at all. You will truly see more traction and growth by having a community of people that will engage.

Common Myth 3:

IM SHADOWBANNED!

Yeah, its real. No, its probably not happening to you. Unless you are directly violating the guidelines on the social media platform.... you will not be shadow banned.

Shadow banned is easy mistaken for unengaged audiences. People can be seeing your content, but it's just not resonating enough with them to prompt them to engage.

When you believe this is happening to you, reevaluate your content, strategy and create what you love as well as what you audience will love as well!

Common Myth 4:

YOU NEED TO POST EVERYDAY.

Being consistent doesn't mean having to post multiple times a day (talk about the burnout that would cause). Finding a consistent schedule that works for you and stick with it.. It could be posting 3 times a week and a few stories sprinkled in the mix... stay consistent.

You never want to be posting so much it dims your quality. Quality over quantity ALWAYS.
